There are truly 1,001 ways to volunteer! 15-year-old Chris baked Mingo corn muffins for three straight, hot summer days so they could be given away as samples at Asia’s Ethnic Food & Ingredients Show (IFEX) held on May 21-24 at SMX, Mall of Asia.
NVC proudly showcased its Mingo products at the Province of Negros Occidental booth, which included an easy-bake Mingo corn muffin mix.
Chris also experimented with Mingo powder and made his own recipe for chocolate chip cookies, which his classmates at La Salle Greenhills loved.
This budding chef found his way into the kitchen at age 10 through his mom, NVC volunteer Sasa Rodriguez, whose passion for cooking rubbed off on him. Since then, has has taken short courses at Enderun and Heny Sison. He even made it to the Metro Manila finals of Junior Master Chef. Aside from his Mingo creations, Chris can whip up a mean pecan pie, chicken pot pie, different kinds of cheesecakes, and even meals for his family.
Despite the sweltering heat, Chris enjoyed being able to contribute his time and talent for some volunteer work. We hope his story will inspire more teens to find their own ways to volunteer and help others.
