The NVC team and Nikki Cares team met to discuss the launch of the community nutrition program.
The Nikki Cares Foundation began operating in 2017 and focused on providing free surgery to those in need. Because of the pandemic, the foundation had to shift gears and is now finding other ways to serve the community. With Bacolod City’s new first lady Nikki Lopez-Benitez at the helm, Nikki Cares held its first feeding program on July 18. The foundation tapped NVC Foundation as its nutrition partner. The launch of this community feeding program was very timely as July is National Nutrition Month in the Philippines.
That morning, the Mingo Bus set out for Brgy. 14 with Mingo Buns and the ingredients for Mingo champorado on board. Because the Mingo Bus has an on-board kitchen, we were able to serve freshly cooked champorado to the eager crowd. Brgy. 14 residents walked up to the serving window to receive their champorado and Mingo Buns. In addition to Mingo-fortified snacks, participants received vegetables (grown by our Farmers of Hope), rice and teddy bears from the Nikki Cares Foundation.
This is the first of many planned community feeding programs under the Nikki Cares Foundation. And the Mingo Bus is ready to be of service for every one of them!
