NVC President Millie Kilayko wanted an out-of-the-box initiative to celebrate National Nutrition Month (July). Luckily, a very kind lady approached us with an idea to boost sponsorship of children in our Mingo Meals Nutrition Program. She offered to match donations for enrollment made during the remainder of Nutrition Month. Of course, we were very grateful for her offer and began calling her our Fairy Godmother because of her overwhelming generosity.
On July 23, we launched our Double-Up Challenge. For just P8,500, participants could enroll one child in our year-long Level 2 Mingo Meals Nutrition Program. This would give the child access to better nutrition through daily servings of Mingo and health care through quarterly medical check-ups.
After just one day, we had confirmed sponsorships for 8 children. And with the doubling up by our Fairy Godmother, the total after just one day was 16 sponsored children.
The Double-Up challenge proved to be a great success. Though the challenge had run for just 9 days, we closed July with 62 sponsored children. After our Fairy Godmother doubled up the number, our total reached 124 children on the road to better nutrition and brighter futures. But our Fairy Godmother had a secret up her sleeve!
Even though our Fairy Godmother initially offered to match donations made in July, she had some great news for us. She decided to keep doubling up donations until we reached 105 donations on our end. That would take us to a total of 210 sponsored children.
We hoped to get a total of 105 donations on our end but when all was said and done, we exceeded that number! In fact, we more than doubled it! Ultimately, donations on our end covered the enrollment of 215 children! And with the 105 promised by our Fairy Godmother, the grand total of sponsored children was 320! Thank you to everyone who made this possible, especially to our Fairy Godmother.
