Kabang was a loyal family dog who gained world-wide fame for her heroism. In December 2011, she leapt in the way of a motorcycle and protected two children from a potentially fatal accident. Kabang lost her upper snout in the process. In the years that followed, Kabang required complicated medical care, the cost of which was too steep for Kabang’s owner Rudi Banggal. Thanks to many donors, Kabang was able to have the surgery she needed in the US. And after she recovered, she was reunited with her family in Zamboanga.
Kabang lived a full and happy life. She passed-away in her sleep on May 17, 2021 at the age of 13.
Donors paid for a memorial to be erected in her honor. Her remains lie buried in a section of the St. Francis of Assisi public park. A solid aluminum statue made by artist Kublai Millan sits atop the vault kabang is buried in. Impressions of her paw prints are displayed at her grave.
Dr. Anton Mari Lim, Kabang’s veterinarian, found another way to keep Kabang’s memory alive. He commissioned our Artisan’s of Hope to make mosaic nesting tables with images of the hero dog.
