Millie Kilayko, NVC President, posted about one of NVC’s Eastern Samar beneficiary communities when Typhoon Ruby made landfall in the province:
“My heart bleeds at this sight. I could not help but shed a few tears. Two weeks ago, I took a photo of this sari-sari store in Brgy Garawon, Hernani, Eastern Samar. The colorful balloons caught my eye, and lifted my spirit to see how a people so hurt and battered have found new color in their lives as they rise from the disaster they suffered after Typhoon Yolanda.
Today, our Field Officer Alyne Batano sends me a photo of what once this happy structure now looks, now fallen to the ground after Typhoon Ruby.
Keep your faith and spirits up, dear people of Brgy Garawon whom I have come to love. The Lord heals all wounds.”
NVC is working with partners and dnors to help the people of Brgy. Garawon. Before Typhoon Ruby, we broke ground on an elevated portion of the barangay for a community center, with funds donated by a private company. The center will house livelihood activities and provide emergency shelter to those who have not yet relocated back to their homes.
We accept donations to help Filipinos cope with their “new normal” of increasing and more destructive typhoons. You may send your donations online via Paypal or a secure credit card transaction.
