On July 17, we met with representatives of all the 105 families who will receive a new home from the La Carlota government. This was the first time for us to meet with all of them under one roof. These families lost their homes to Typhoon Tino and were not allowed to rebuild their homes where they once stood as those areas were marked as no-build zones. For more than 8 months, many of these families lived in evacuation centers as they had nowhere else to go. Representatives drew lots to determine which of the homes would be theirs. Afterwards, families began moving in some of their belongings and furniture. It was truly a momentous occasion!
In the coming months, we plan to provide additional support to this community. We will help the families put up vegetable gardens and provide livelihood opportunities. We look forward to working with this new community!
