One sari-sari store in Bago City has ventured to sell individual Mingo sachets. Vivian Piodos, a Bago City government employee, discovered Mingo through a feeding program in her barangay. It occurred to her that she could sell it the same way she does other powdered drinks. So she ordered a pack of Mingo Choco and sold it at a competitive price of P7 per sachet, cheaper than a sachet of Milo. She offers to mix it into a drink her customers, but some kids also like eating it on its own. Her initial stock has already sold out and she’s about to order another supply.
This is a 5-year-old dream come true for NVC. In 2012, mothers whose toddlers had been successfully fed with Mingo Meals wanted to purchase and resell Mingo in their own sari-sari stores, thinking it would be a nutritious alternative to junk food that their kids regularly bought. At that time though, the product was not yet packaged for long shelf life and resistance from contaminants.
Because of budget constraints, this dream had to be shelved until we received an auto-fill packaging unit as a gift from a donor in 2016. This donation allowed us to put Mingo in foil packs that extend its shelf life to one year, and make it resistant to outside impurities.
You can’t imagine how overjoyed we are to see these Mingo packs hanging on display at a sari-sari store!
