Meet Edgardo Catayong and family, from Brgy Garawon, Hernani, Eastern Samar.
Edgardo had been a making and selling puto even before he married, but he lost all his tools to Typhoon Haiyan. A few months ago, he received a new set of tools through NVC’s Project Joseph.
Today, Edgardo and his wife net close to P400 daily making native delicacies: puto in the morning and binangkal at noon. Their children Edgar and Reneil walk through the neighborhood to sell these and earn their school allowance for the day.
The couple is also saving a portion of their sales to buy an electric rice grinder and increase their output in the future.
Their story makes us smile. May it make you smile as well!
