NVC began its newest project, Love Bags for School Kids, on February 14, 2017 in response to learning that many students in remote mountain schools in the Philippines lack school supplies and school bags.
Since the launch just over 2 months ago, donations have poured in, allowing us to complete our target of providing a sturdy backpack with one year’s worth of school supplies to 852 children of the indigenous Tala-andig tribe in the mountains of Bukidnon, Mindanao.
We have now identified an additional 571 indigenous children of the Maghat, Bukidnon, and Ituman tribes located in the mountain region of Himamalyan, Negros Island, who are in the same situation.
As of April 21, 2017, we have received donations totaling Php 707, 250.00 — enough for 943 Love Bags. One Love Bag with a complete set of school supplies for one schoolyear is Php 750.00 or approximately US$ 15.00
