In 2020, NVC supported hospitals and healthcare workers by providing PPEs. As part of Phase 2 of our fight against the Covid-19 Crisis, we have been feeding hospital frontliners whenever possible. We support partner hospitals in Bacolod and Manila.
On August 16 of this year, Philippine General Hospital (PGH) closed its doors to non-Covid-19 patients. This has allowed the hospital to focus on caring for patients suffering from Covid-19.
In the same month, an individual with a kind heart asked us to facilitate a donation of 2,000 ube and chocolate Mingo Buns to PGH. Since then, NVC has been collecting donations for Mingo Buns for PGH. A Mingo Bun is your regular soft pan de sal with the addition of Mingo.
We facilitate the ordering and regular delivery of the Mingo Buns. Meanwhile, the team of Fr. Lito Ocon, SJ (hospital chaplain) takes care of distribution. The Mingo Buns are given to the staff and patients of PGH, as well as the companions of the patients. Take note that as per protocol, companions can no longer leave the premises even to buy food after they have had their swab tests. Besides, many of them do not have the means to buy food. According to Fr. Lito, these Mingo buns are often the only sustenance the companions can get their hands on. Other family members have to wait outside the hospital. Fr. Lito’s team also hands Mingo Buns to them.
We have been supplying PGH with Mingo Buns on a weekly basis. In September, we received a thank you postcard and photos of happy Mingo Bun recipients from Fr. Lito. Thank you to all the generous donors who have shared Mingo Buns with PGH!
A Mingo Bun for PGH is just P5.00. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to make a donation. You may also reach us on Messenger.
