Thanks to the contribution of one donor, NVC in March 2017 began construction of a preschool building, while also pooling together additional contributions to build a playground for children of the indigenous people in Sitio Bugtong Lubi, Hinobaan, Negros Island. Sitio Bugtong Lubi is a mountain community that is extremely marginalized due to its remote, difficult to access location.
Along with NVC, the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways and another NGO, Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation are also constructing school infrastructure for the community.
And kids get Mingo Meals, too!
Majority of the children in the community are underweight and don’t get enough food to eat due to poverty. To nourish their bodies as well as their minds, NVC will enroll the preschool students of Sitio Bugtong Lubi in its 6-month Mingo Meals feeding program.
NVC has been working with the artist Pia Camus, who donates the proceeds of sales of her paintings to fund the feeding of children. As of March 2017, sales of Pia’s paintings will be able to fund the feeding of the incoming kinder class.
